People & Community

Some of the most remarkable stories are not about celebrities. They are happening in neighborhoods, organizations, families, theaters, classrooms, businesses, volunteer groups, and communities every day.

People & Community introduces the people who remind us how much experience, talent, generosity, humor, knowledge, and energy exists in later life.

We profile older adults who are still working, creating, volunteering, performing, mentoring, teaching, advocating, serving, and making a difference. Some have extraordinary accomplishments. Others are extraordinary simply because of the way they approach ordinary life.

This is also where we celebrate the organizations and people who create stronger communities: volunteers, veterans, educators, caregivers, nonprofit leaders, community advocates, senior organizations, service groups, clubs, and people who quietly help their neighbors.

We will share stories from people in their 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond—including centenarians whose lives give us an extraordinary perspective on change, resilience, relationships, and longevity.

These stories are not intended to present aging as heroic simply because someone remains active. Instead, they show the enormous variety of ways people continue to participate in the world.

Community also matters because connection matters. Friendships, volunteering, group activities, intergenerational relationships, and simply having people who expect to see us can contribute enormously to a meaningful life.

Everyone has a story. Some of the best ones are still being written.
